CHARLESTON, SC – SCKidsCAN has endorsed Ellen Weaver for re-election as South Carolina superintendent of education. SCKidsCAN supports candidates who are proven leaders and demonstrate an authentic commitment to supporting education freedom, great teachers in every classroom, and expanding career pathways for students.
During her time in office, Superintendent Weaver has led South Carolina towards:
- Dramatic improvements in reading and math scores. The number of schools rated “excellent” has continued to rise five years in a row — 320 schools in 2026 compared to 259 in 2022. Over that same time period, the number of schools rated “unsatisfactory” has dropped from 74 to 24.
- Improved training for educators. Equipping more than 20,000 South Carolina teachers with training in the “science of reading” to ensure every child can read on grade level.
- Increased teacher pay. Great teachers in classrooms means more learning for students. Under Weaver’s leadership, starting teacher pay has increased $8,500.
- A more focused learning environment. South Carolina schools are cell phone-free from bell-to-bell allowing students to focus on learning.
- More education freedom. More students than ever before have the freedom to choose the education environment that works best for them regardless of their zip code or family income.
In announcing the endorsement, Taylor Hall, senior advisor for SCKidsCAN, said, “South Carolina is on the move thanks to Superintendent Weaver’s extraordinary leadership. South Carolina students are reaching new levels of learning, educators are being paid more for outstanding teaching, and more families have the opportunity to choose the education that works best for their child.”
Along with the endorsement, SCKidsCAN launched a statewide television ad buy supporting Weaver.
